Hello. I have been a practicing, licensed psychologist for more than 20 years. I continue to work in this field because I believe I can make a difference in the lives of those who consult with me. My major concern is for the best interests of all family members as individual children, adults, or as couples. In turn, I hope that my work with patients will help them attain greater happiness and satisfaction, as well as to experience inner calm, so they can better tackle life’s challenges.
In my private practice in Denville I work individually with children, adolescents, and adults, as well as with couples. I have been trained to work as a mental health professional in the collaborative process of divorce, and am skilled as both a Divorce Coach and Child Specialist. My background has prepared me well for all of these roles, including work with children and parents, both in and out of the public schools and in diverse settings, in both therapeutic and assessment areas. Having spent 12 years on a child study team, I'm familiar with the needs of children within the school setting, in particular the educational, social and emotional problems surrounding those children who have special learning needs. In fact, my doctoral research involved working with parent to help them be better advocates for their special needs children. I also directed a program for preschool children, assessing children and providing parent counseling. In my years as a psychologist on the child and adolescent inpatient unit at St. Claire's hospital, I worked with both the children and their families. In addition, I’m particularly interested in women's issues and have been active with women’s centers in Livingston and Summit.
My work is very relationship-focused, looking at interpersonal issues. Since my office is like my second home, I want my clients to be comfortable in “my home.” I hope that they will gain a better understanding of themselves, their family, and other important persons in their lives. We work on techniques to reduce stress and tension, improve communication and problem-solving skills, and learn ways to deal with daily problems. My goal is to help clients’ ability to relate to and to communicate with others, and to achieve greater self-esteem and confidence in themselves.
My background includes a Ph.D. from Yeshiva University, training in family therapy at the Ackerman Institute and the NJ Center for Family Studies, and in play therapy at Fairleigh Dickinson. I regularly attend workshops and seminars to broaden my skills. In addition to my psychology license, I also hold NJ certifications as a School Psychologist and as a Learning Disability Teacher-Consultant. My private practice work includes psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, and parent/child advocacy; I have particular expertise in the areas of attention deficit disorders, learning disabilities, and early childhood. Assessment also encompasses accommodations for standardized testing and specialized academic programs.
My professional memberships include the APA, NJPA, EUCAP, MCPA, and the NJAWT, as well as the NJCLG, NJCLA, and the IACP. NJALC. In 2008, I was selected to be the NJPA Psychologist of the Year.
In terms of my personal life, My husband and I take great pleasure in spending time with our 2 children and their spouses, and our 3 grandchildren, aged 15, 14 and 10. We love to entertain, take great pleasure in good food and fine wine, and yearly host a dinner for the NJPA Foundation. I have traveled widely, enjoy being with friends and other family members, music and theater, gardening and museum-going, and I really like reading a good book.
